This is one of our California kitchens. This custom cabinetry is built out of solid cherry with a red oil-based stain. The finish is a semi-gloss lacquer, which leaves a beautiful finish and makes them easier to clean than a matte finish. Lacquer finishes are not as common in California, as laws forbid spraying lacquer inside the state. Therefore, the custom cabinetry and cabinet accessories have to be 100% stained and finished here in Texas prior to delivery and installation.

The arch above the gas cooktop is actually a solid cherry arched vent hood. The vent hood ends are capped with twisted rope decorative millworks. The boxes that the large wood corbels mount to are wired for undercabinet lighting and house controls for the vent hood. The wood corbels hold the nine inch thick arch with recessed panels. On top of the arch is an eleven piece crown moulding stack. All of these pieces have been built together as one complete unit, including the crown moulding stack. This kitchen is within an hour and a half of Los Angeles and prone to seismic activity, so we decided to reframe the ceiling above to help hold the nearly 500 pound arched vent hood and keep the weight off the cabinetry below.

The baking center has two custom tambour cabinets. One was built to hold a toaster oven, the other to house a Kitchen-aid mixer and both have outlet boxes inside of them. The doors above the tambours are for spices. They both have custom spice racks mounted to the doors and the shelves are cut out to accept the racks, optimizing space. There is a small arched valance between the tambour cabinets sitting on small wood corbels to match the arched vent hood.
